Business Development / Commercial Ops (part-time, early-stage)

We’re looking for a hands-on business person to help nanoSpec validate the PFAS use case and build an early commercial pipeline. The goal is simple: talk to the right labs and industry teams, qualify real customer needs, and turn that into pilot tests, repeatable processes, and revenue-ready traction.

You would work closely with the technical team to:

  • Identify and prioritize target customer segments (PFAS testing labs, environmental labs, water utilities, industrial monitoring teams)

  • Build and manage outreach, lead lists, and CRM (contacts, notes, follow-ups, status)

  • Run discovery calls and interviews, capture pain points, budgets, current workflows, and decision criteria

  • Convert interest into pilot test discussions (sample types, timelines, success metrics, procurement steps)

  • Help structure “pilot kits” and pricing logic for substrates/consumables (early adoption-friendly)

  • Support partnership conversations (universities, measurement labs, instrument companies, consultants)

  • Keep us moving with a weekly pipeline review and clear next actions

This is an early-stage role. You’ll have autonomy, speed, and direct impact, but you need to be comfortable with ambiguity and doing the basics consistently (calls, follow-ups, documentation).

About the job

You’ll have autonomy, speed, and direct impact, but you need to be comfortable with ambiguity and doing the basics consistently (calls, follow-ups, documentation). Ideal profile • Strong communication and follow-through, comfortable with cold outreach and structured follow-ups • Experience selling to labs, B2B technical products, or scientific services is a big plus • You don’t need to be a nanotech expert, but you should understand how labs buy and validate tools/consumables • Based in Berlin or able to travel occasionally for meetings/events is helpful

• Flexible setup: part-time, freelance, or mini-job initially, aligned with our current budget • High ownership and visibility, you’ll be shaping the commercial strategy from day one • Direct access to deep-tech IP and a strong technical team, with real validation work underway • Clear growth path: if collaboration works well and commitment aligns, the role can evolve into a larger position and potentially a co-founder track later (not promised upfront)

About the startup project

Information about the start-up project

nanoSpec Technologies is a Berlin-based deep-tech startup building nanostructured SERS substrates and an AI-driven analysis workflow to make chemical sensing faster, more reproducible, and easier to deploy outside the lab. Our first validation focus is PFAS screening (public health and regulatory relevance), starting with a substrate-first approach so labs can adopt it without changing their instrumentation. Over time, we plan to expand into a broader sensing platform across multiple chemical targets. We are an early-stage team with strong nanofabrication and sensing expertise, currently working with academic lab infrastructure for measurement and validation. We’re now looking for practical partners and team members to accelerate validation, data generation, and commercialization readiness (dataset quality, reproducibility, pilot use cases, and a clear path to market). https://www.nanospec.tech
